The Method

Instructions

First things first, grab some small potatoes and give them a good rinse to clean off any dirt. Place them in a pot of boiling water and cook them until they're tender all the way through, this usually takes about 15 to 20 minutes depending on the size. You'll know they're ready when you can easily pierce them with a fork without any resistance. Once done, drain them and set them aside while you get the cheese ready.

Now, it's time to bring out the star of the show: the raclette cheese. Slice the cheese into pieces that will fit nicely on your raclette grill or in those little trays if you're using a raclette machine. If you don't have one, no worries, you can also pop the cheese on a baking sheet and place it under the broiler in your oven. Just keep a close eye on it so it melts evenly and gently, turning all gooey and golden without burning.

As the cheese starts to bubble and melt, it's time for the fun part. Use a small spatula or knife to scrape the melted cheese off onto your plate, right over those warm boiled potatoes. The creamy, slightly nutty cheese melting over the soft potatoes is such a cozy combo, perfect for any chilly day. If you like, add some capers on top for a little briny pop that complements the richness beautifully.

Serve your raclette feast with some classic sides like cornichons, pickled onions, an assortment of cured meats, and plenty of crusty bread to soak up all that cheesy goodness. The best part about raclette is that the cheese keeps melting throughout the meal, so just keep heating it up and scraping it on as you go,it's a wonderfully social and relaxed way to eat, perfect for sharing with friends or family around the table.
